Autumn

"Have a happy strike." That's what we may be wishing each other soon as strikes have become a fixture here in France at the start of the school year . No letters, reduced public transport and all the rest. We learn to shrug our shoulders and wait for it to pass.
The days are getting shorter, the mornings and the evenings chillier. The leaves are changing colour but the roses and other flowers are still blooming . We see the turtle who lives in our pond, very rarely these last few weeks. She is getting ready to hibernate under the water, something that I never cease to marvel at. She can pass the winter under the water and often under a thick layer of ice, with no food or air. Each springtime I look anxiously every day to see if she has survived another winter and for six years now she has not failed to pop her head out and say hello. The first chestnuts are dropping from the tree and in front of the school you cannot walk under the horse chestnut tree (see photo)without getting bonked on the head with wonderfull fat shiny brown nuts .At the library we are making of plans for extra weekly storytimes and for Halloween . Oh I do love the autumn!

Marttis computer is sick and will have to undergo some major surgery. So for the moment I'm squatting on my daughters laptop. Oh the joys of technology! Also thank heaven for daughters with laptops :) .
This same daughter (one of four) ran out of petrol the other day and phoned me to see what she could do . Cavalry to the rescue! Mother jumps into some warm clothes and then into the car, grabbing a cannister that we keep filled up for the lawn mower. I found a very folorn daughter sitting in her car on a little road in the middle of the wintery fields. We emptied the petrol into the car but also on the car ,on her shoes and on the road. We are bad pourers and there was a bit of a leak. Off goes my daughter very happy but in a hurry because she has to get to work. Not even five minutes had passed when I got a SOS from her again .The car had stopped again. Off to the rescue! We pushed the car into a car park and I took her to work. The long and short of this story is that some silly person had filled up our cleary marked cannister with Diesel and the car is not a diesel. Nobody has owned up as yet!
Now the car is back on the road again happily after having its tank emptied out and a refill of petrol and a tow start. Life is never boring in our house, we always find something amusing to do!

Just to introduce myself

My name is Martti. I was born in England but I live in the depths of France. Recently I have taken to Tai chi chuan and I'm having lots of fun. Also I decided that I would try to write a childrens book as I had several ideas for stories, but it's one thing getting the ideas and another to actually set them out on paper. Well I can but try.Go to it girl !
This is my first effort at blogging. I am learning little by little how to set it up. Watch this space:)
